Personal Profile
Hello. My name is Tom Galperin, and I have been in the Autism and Developmental Disability field since 1996. I am a LISW-S in the State of Ohio, a LCSW in the State of Kentucky, and am a TEACCH Certified Practitioner.
I am including this page on the website to provide you a little about me as a person, not just as an Autism Consultant or Licensed Independent Social Worker.
I am married to my wonderful wife, Elisabeth, with whom I have two boys. Since 2014 we have resided in the suburbs of Cincinnati, OH, near where my wife grew up. Previously I lived in Chapel Hill, NC, where I spent 18 wonderful years. I was raised in Charleston, WV, where some of my family still reside.
As a child I spent a lot of time around people with Developmental Disabilities. My Uncle, who has an Intellectual Disability, was, and is, very dear to me. One of my best friend's sister has a Developmental Disability and as a child I spend countless hours with her, as she accompanied her brother and I on club soccer trips up and down the East Coast. My father ran a Sheltered Workshop Agency back in the days when they were the standard of service. There really isn't any wonder I ended up working with people with disabilities. My admiration for people with ASD began in 1996 when I started my first full-time job in the field, and it didn't take long for me to get "hooked" on autism. To this day I'm still hooked.
I enjoy watching sports with my wife and children, especially our beloved University of North Carolina Tar Heels. We are FC Cincinnati season ticket holders, and I am a Coach for FC Storm. My older son is an avid soccer player and my younger son loves arts and crafts and science.
