Lori Watkins, Director of Behavioral Health Services, Clermont County Board of DD, regarding the collaboration between Clermont Co Board of DD, Hamilton Co DDS, and Galperin Autism Consulting
“Galperin Autism Consulting has made a profound, measurable difference for families."
Their expertise, responsiveness, and commitment to whole-family wellbeing set them apart as a provider capable of meeting complex system needs with excellence and compassion. We recommend them without reservation to any state or county system seeking impactful, evidence informed supports for families navigating significant developmental and behavioral challenges.”
We all understand the benefits of providing direct services to children and adults with autism.
But what about their parents? Who supports them?
Over the past four years, through Galperin Autism Consulting's partnership with Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services and Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities, our therapists have supported more than 75 families via telehealth. Our work has helped autism parents in a variety of meaningful ways, including:
• Connecting them with licensed therapists who genuinely understand autism and the unique impact raising a child with ASD can have on family life.
• Reducing their symptoms of depression and anxiety, strengthening their ability to care for and support their child.
• Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help parents recognize and reshape unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
• Providing a safe, compassionate space where they can openly express emotions without fear of judgment.
• Helping them process personal trauma and mend chronic stress symptoms.
• Providing psychoeducation to increase their understanding of how their child thinks, learns, and experiences the world, as well as how to implement strategies in the home that align with their child’s learning style.
What families have said about Galperin Autism Consulting and our parent counseling service through their County Board:
-
“As parents of an intellectually disabled son, we are focused on his support system. My husband and I never thought about therapy for our needs during this journey. Clermont County DD referred us to Galperin Autism Consulting. This resource is wonderful. We were connected to our own therapist who was very supportive, knowledgeable and caring. We cannot express how wonderful this experience is for parents.”

“Our family was introduced to Tom Galperin through our local Board of Developmental Disabilities in 2023. Since then, Tom has been an incredible therapist, sounding board, and resource for our family. Our son has complex, multisystem needs that present unique behavioral, developmental, and medical challenges, and finding a therapist who truly understands that world has been invaluable. One of the most meaningful differences with Tom is that he not only understands our child’s needs, but he also understands the emotional toll and isolation that can come with parenting a child with significant disabilities. Many well-meaning people in our lives simply cannot relate to the realities our family faces on a daily basis. Conversations with friends, family members, or even other therapists often left us feeling misunderstood, pitied, or compared to families raising neurotypical children. Tom is different. He has years of experience working with children like our son and supporting parents navigating similar challenges. He offers practical guidance, emotional support, and a deep understanding of local resources and support systems. Beyond therapy itself, he has helped us feel less alone, more supported, and more confident in advocating for our child and caring for our family as a whole. Tom has become an invaluable part of our family’s support system and wellness plan, and we are incredibly grateful for the impact he has had on both our child and our family.”

“Often times families who have an individual with a disability experience trauma in unexpected ways. We found ourselves in a crisis and it didn’t just impact our child; all components of the family unit were subject to the ripple affect it caused. Galperin Autism Consulting came at precisely the right time to help us navigate the rough roads ahead that we as a family would face. Throughout our year with them, our goals and needs changed. The ability to work with them and recognize the need to shift focus at times was so important. Our therapist was so knowledgeable on how we could specifically meet those changing needs. The flexibility and expertise she offered in our time of dire need was worth its weight in gold. If I could change one thing, it would be that I wish we could have had their services longer and I mean that in a positive way. Their services were so beneficial and served our family so greatly. We do understand that the need is great and there are only so many providers in this field, so we certainly were happy to pass the torch.”

“Galperin Autism Consulting is an amazing service provider to help parents struggling with children and their disabilities. As a single mother sometimes it’s very overwhelming and I place blame on myself. During our sessions I am able to vent about things going on in our home without feeling judged. Our therapist not only helps with the issues I am having with my child, but also issues I have within myself, work, community, and even marriage. Galperin Autism Consulting has been a blessing in teaching me new strategies and techniques to better my child and myself.”

“Our therapy centered on our son and his inability to process his emotions (mostly anxiety and frustration for things that weren't going as planned in his head). He was getting more and more physically aggressive with things and us. He wanted to "right size" his response to things but just couldn't seem to manage it until after an outburst/tantrum was over. Galperin Autism Consulting/Amy was wonderful. She offered strategies and resources every time we spoke with her. When we accepted that our son was not going to be able to control himself at this juncture in life, Amy recommended we find a place for CJ to physically exhaust his anger, safely. It took a little time to identify an “eruption” was coming and to teach him to go to the safe zone before things got too bad. What this approach did for us was BIG. Our son had a strategy! We had a strategy! We had a plan in place to head to the basement where he could hit the punching bag and shout out whatever he needed to (no restrictions down there). Once exhausted, he could collapse onto a mattress we put down there on the floor. The very best thing about all of this is that, while we are continuing to work to help curb these events, our son doesn't have to feel badly about himself when they happen. He can feel good that he got to the safe zone in time and that he was able to let it all out...safely. And when it was over, he could leave it all down there and start fresh. We've got a lot of work to do still ahead but what a blessing for the phase we are in right now.”
